Bio:
Steve Nelson received formal training at Washington State University (Bachelor’s of Music degree 1975, Master’s of Music degree 1978), his teaching credentials from the University of Puget Sound and did a doctoral internship at the University of Michigan. Mr. Nelson began teaching in the Wenatchee, Washington public schools and has taught for 18 years in the Salem-Keizer School District in Oregon. His teaching career has been distinguished by “Teacher of the Year” honors, selection by ASTA to be a clinician at the National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, guest conducting at numerous state and regional honor orchestras, and frequent requests to serve as clinician and adjudicator throughout the northwestern United States. Mr. Nelson’s ensembles have been awarded numerous titles including many state championships, two international championships and invitations to perform regularly throughout the nation and abroad.
